One effective way of destroying happiness is to look at soething and focus on even the sallest fault. It’s like looking at the tiled (鋪瓦的) ceiling and concentrating on the space where one tile is 1 .

Finally, the belief that soething peranent goes beyond us and that our 12 has soe larger eaning can help us to feel happier. We need a spiritual faith, or a philosophy of life. Whatever your philosophy is, it should 13 this truth: if you choose to find the 14 in every situation, you will be blessed, and if you choose to find the awful, you will be cursed. As for happiness itself, this 15 depends on your decision to ake.

It's really true what people say about English politeness: it's everywhere. When squeezing past soeone in a narrow passage, people say "sorry". When getting off a bus, English passengers say "thank you" rather than the driver. In Gerany, people would never drea of doing these things. After all, squeezing past others is soeties unavoidable, and the bus driver is only doing his job. I used to think the sae way, without questioning it, until I started traveling to the British Isles, and here are soe ore polite ways of interacting (交往) with people in UK.
People thank each other everywhere in England, all the tie. When people buy soething in a shop, custoers and retail assistants in ost cases thank each other twice or ore. Another thing I observed during y stay was that English people rarely criticize others. Even when I was working and istakes were pointed out to e, y eployers ephasized several ties but none of their explanations were intended as criticis. It has been y ipression that by avoiding criticis, English people are aking an effort to ake others feel cofortable. This also is showed in other ways. British en still open doors for woen, and British en are ore likely to treat woen to a eal than Geran en. However, I do need to point out here that this applies to English en a bit ore than it would to Scottish en! Yes, the latter are a bit tightfisted.

D. Gerans think it is unnecessary to thank workers because payent is enough.
33. We can learn fro the last paragraph that Scottish en _______.
A. are ore likely to be involved in a fighting B. are as generous as English en
C. treat woen in a polite way D. are unwilling to spend oney for woen
34. Which of the following stateents is true according to the passage?

Conservationists have unveiled plans to preserve and protect the world's ost iportant species of coral, in a response to increasing threats that they say will lead to "functional extinction" within decades.

The Edge plan, which focuses on the ost evolutionarily distinct and globally endangered species , will take a regional approach to conservation. This eans focusing on the "coral triangle" around the Philippines, the West Indian Ocean around the ozabique channel, and in the Caribbean channel.

Cliatic instability, which leads to rising sea teperatures, causes corals to bleach.Bleaching occurs when sea teperatures rise and this causes the coral tissue to expel their sybiotic algae called zooxanthellae - these are what give the coral their colour.Bleached corals often die if the stress continues.Aong the 10 species chosen to start the Edge project are the pearl bubble coral, a food source for the hawksbill(玳瑁)turtle, and the ushroo coral, which supports at least 15 brightly colored fish.

讀寫任務(wù)
The passage states the benefits and the worry of social practice for senior school students: it enriches students’ social experience and rewards the with oney, but it ay affect their studies and values. So, students should balance their studies and social practice.
Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it. Nowadays, ore students have opportunities to join in various social activities, including ilitary training, voluntary work in a counity service, a part-tie job in a super-arket, etc. They learn how to serve, how to cooperate and how to solve probles. Gradually they will becoe strong-willed , kind-hearted and enthusiastic in study and life.
Two years ago, I organized a tea of classates to a Charity House where orphans and the disabled live. There we told stories to the blind; we drew beautiful pictures for the deaf; we helped friends in the wheelchair go around. It was the visit that ade e realize that helping others should not be only an epty talk and that life is worth cherishing.
Of course, we ust strike a balance between study and social practice, never allowing social activities to take priority over schoolwork. After all, senior school stage is a vital period for students to obtain knowledge and get prepared for their future. Therefore, I strongly suggest that we ake full use of our spare tie and holiday to participate in that. Only in this way can we refuse to shut ourselves in the capus.
